nature observation game

4/16/2020

Being in nature heals and resets the nervous system; it strengthens our vitality. Walking in nature can be a part of your daily rhythm, even in springtime rain showers. This activity allows children to hone their observational skills, become aware of their surroundings and breathe more deeply. Observing the many components of nature and how they interact provides an opportunity for engaged learning.

nature observation game instructions

  • On a piece of paper have your child draw the things they might see outside. The picture provided below gives some ideas. You can draw one, too.
  • Allowing the child to draw their own means they’re doing the work! It also exercises fine motor skills.
  • Go on a walk together and find all of the things they have drawn in the natural world.
  • Bring your game with you in the car or on hikes to continue the exploration.
  • Trade lists with each other; find each other's images. Have the child tell a story (draw book/ puppet show) about what they saw that day.
